Product Description: The folding bed when compacted is 32”x 27.5” x 4.5”, and upon full extension, will open up to a 52” wide bed that comfortably sleeps 2 adults. It’s standard length can reach 74” or 6 feet 2 inches, but it can also extend up to 80” or 6 feet 8 inches. Its unique extension mechanism works using 2 upper main sets of interconnected pull-out telescopic tube frames, that makes up the entire surface area of the bed. Beneath these 2 main sets of telescopic tube frames, are another 2 subsets of pull-out telescopic tube frames acting as its primary support. Since the lower set of telescopic tube frames are only pulled out a fraction of its maximum allowable distance, they still maintain the relative strength to support the 2 main sets of fully extended telescopic tube frames sitting directly above it. The upper set of tube frames also accompanied and permanently attached to tough plastic-based bed panels via tough nylon velcro belting. These bed panels are auto-setting which means that it travels concurrently along with the tube frames when the user pulls out the bed sections, and finds their own respective locations at the end of the extension sequence. However, for the outermost left and right side of the bed extension sections, the bed panels will have to be manually fitted by the user, since they cannot be part of the main set of cascading pull-out panels. When all the bed sections have been fully extended and the bed panels fitted in place, these bed panels will form a 100% flat sleeping surface to lay a comfortable mattress. To complete the extension steps, and in order to gain the needed support for the extreme end of the bed extension, the user needs to finally loop the 2 straps (located at the head of the bed) over the driver and front passenger seat headrest, and slightly tighten the straps.
In certain bed setup configurations, before the above extension steps are performed, the user first has to activate the 4 sets of folding bed legs, to establish support with the vehicle floor or base support. This is done by rotating the legs towards the ground (at a more stable 100 degree tilt compared to 90 degree tilt), which will spring into place with by the opposing force action of the gas struts when it has reached a certain activation point. Once the 4 support legs are activated and stable, the user can continue to perform the bed extension steps highlighted in the above paragraph. And depending on the internal structure of the vehicle and the user preferred choice of bed configuration, the length 4 sets of folding legs can be shortened by cutting the leg tubes with an electric cutter so as to optimize the users’ sleeping headroom.
Sleeping Modes: There are 3 modes of sleeping with the folding bed. The first mode of sleeping arrangement would be to position the bed all the way into the front of the vehicle, by front folding the driver and front passengers seats towards the vehicle dashboard. Doing so would allow the rear hatch door to be fully shut, and this mode will be suitable for bear country or unfamiliar campgrounds, for added security. In this mode, only the back pair of folding bed support legs will be resting on the base support module, whereas the front pair of support legs will instead be rotated, angled back and propped on top of the rear folded 2nd row passenger seats with help of angled plate rests. The second mode of sleeping would be to open up the vehicle rear hatch door and letting the base portion of the bed jut out a foot or so from the rear tailgate. At this point, all of the 4 folding bed support legs are resting entirely on the base support module. This mode will have to be accompanied by the use of the rear canvas netting enclosure which acts as a room extension to accommodate the increased length of the sleeping quarters. See the benefits of sleeping in this mode. The third mode of sleeping would allow maximum spaciousness to be experienced in the sleeping quarters. So spacious it would allow the occupants to easily sit upright and move around with much freedom. It involves inverting the direction of the bed, so that the head portion of the bed is positioned outside of the vehicle, and the leg portion of the bed is position inside the vehicle. In order to support this bed orientation, the bed support system needs to make use of the i) extended slide rails of the base support as well as the ii) step ladder as a ground support mechanism. This mode of sleeping will not require the second row passenger seats to be folded down, and instead to be used as additional storage space for valuable items. Similar to sleeping mode 2, this sleeping mode also needs to be paired with the use of the canvas netting enclosure. Bearing in mind this spacious mode of sleeping comes at the expense of less security and protection from the elements.
Safety Locks: In-built locking systems are present in the bed design and prevents each section from falling out when it has reached it maximum extension distance. The bed panels also has locks present to allow them to lock against each other in order to restrict bed frame movements when the users are sleeping.Materials Used: n/a
